"It had been my dream to take my colleagues and students to visit the
Great Wall. On May 23, 2004, this dream came true."
Biography
My name is Wei-ping Kong.
I grew up in Shanghai China and graduated from Fudan University as
an English major. I taught
English as a foreign language in Fudan University and the Shanghai Medical
University for nine years before I came to study in a master’s degree
program in the area of applied linguistics at Cal State University,
Fullerton in 1986. I started
teaching ESL classes as a part time instructor at Fullerton College in
1989 and became a full time instructor of ESL and Chinese in 1991. Ever since then, I have had wonderful opportunities to work
with students from all over the world with interestingly diversified
cultural, academic and social backgrounds.
Their incredible learning enthusiasm and persistent exploring
spirits have continuously inspired me, educated me and empowered me in my
job. Every semester added
unforgettable memories about unique and rewarding experiences.
For me, working with these students is not just a job; it’s a
passion and my joy of life.
Teaching Philosophy
To help students with a challenging task of
studying a language that is dramatically different from Western languages,
I focus on the development of active learning strategies that students can
apply in approaching a new language system and engage the learner in
collective/team learning efforts through carefully designed class
activities and homework assignments.
My goal is to see students develop not only their abilities in the
Chinese language, but also their general academic skills, and become more
effective and confident in accomplishing their education and career goals.
